In short. This app has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your bookmarks, quiz progress and reminder settings stay on your phone. The only information that leaves your device is an advertising identifier, read by Google AdMob and by Meta so that the advertisements that pay for the app can be shown and measured.

1. Who this is from

This app is published by CrunchCode Labs. If anything here is unclear, or you want to ask about your data, write to crunchcodelabs@gmail.com.

This policy covers the Android app named above, and nothing else.

2. What stays on your device

The app stores a small amount of information locally so it can work the way you left it. None of it is sent to us, and we have no way of reading it:

Which sections you have bookmarked.
Your quiz progress: how many questions you have answered today, which questions you have seen recently, and how often you have answered each topic correctly or incorrectly. The last of these is what lets the quiz ask more about the topics you find hard.
Your reminder settings: whether reminders are on, the time, how often, and how many a day.

The formulas, diagrams and quiz questions are all packaged inside the app. Reading them needs no internet connection, and nothing about what you read is recorded or sent anywhere.

3. Advertising

There are two kinds of advertisement in the app, and they behave differently:

A banner along the bottom of the screen. It appears on the topic pages, search, bookmarks and the quiz. It does not appear on the home screen — the list of topics you see when the app opens. It never covers what you are reading, and a line separates it from the content above it.
A video you choose to watch. The Daily Quiz gives you three questions a day at no cost; if you want more on the same day, you may watch a short video to unlock three more. Nothing is shown unless you tap the button asking for it, and you are never required to.

There are no full-screen advertisements that interrupt you, and nothing plays on its own.

Advertisements are supplied by Google AdMob. To do that, Google reads your device’s advertising identifier — a resettable ID that Android provides for this purpose — along with technical information such as your device type and approximate region. This is used to select and measure advertisements. We do not receive it, and we do not receive any report identifying you.

When this starts. The advertising software is not started when the app launches. It starts the first time you open a screen that carries an advertisement, which means the first time you move away from the home screen. Opening the app and closing it again starts nothing.

3a. Meta, and how you found this app

This app is sometimes advertised on Facebook and Instagram. So that Meta can tell whether someone who saw one of those advertisements went on to install the app, the app reports two things to Meta: that it was installed, and that it was opened. Meta reads the same resettable advertising identifier described above to match those up.

That is the whole of it. There is no Facebook login, no sharing to Facebook, and no Facebook or Instagram content anywhere in the app. Nothing you read, search for, bookmark or answer is sent to Meta, and Meta is not told who you are.

This is subject to the same consent as the advertisements. Nothing belonging to Meta runs until you have been asked and have agreed — on a first launch with no connection, or if you decline, no Meta software starts at all and nothing is reported.

4. Your choices about advertising

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you are asked for your consent before any advertising software starts, using Google’s consent form. You can change that choice at any time from Privacy options in the app’s menu.

Everywhere in the world, Android lets you reset or delete your advertising identifier in Settings → Privacy → Ads. Deleting it stops personalised advertising across all your apps, not just this one.

You are never required to watch an advertisement. The three daily questions, and the whole formula reference, work without one — and the entire reference works with no internet connection at all, in which case no advertisement is fetched and the banner simply does not appear.

5. Backup

Android’s own backup feature is enabled for this app, which is the default. That means the local information listed in section 2 may be copied to your Google account’s backup, in the same way Android backs up your other apps. It goes to your Google Drive, not to us, and you can turn it off in Settings → Google → Backup.

6. Permissions, and why

Internet and network state — used to fetch advertisements, and to ask the Play Store whether an update exists and to show its rating prompt. Every formula, diagram and quiz question is packaged inside the app and needs neither: the whole reference works with no connection at all.
Advertising ID — required by Google AdMob and by Meta, as described above.
Notifications — used only for the revision reminder, and only asked for at the moment you switch reminders on. If you decline, everything else still works.

The app asks for no other permissions. It does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone, files, or call history.

7. Age

This app is made for students preparing for the Sri Lankan G.C.E. Advanced Level Combined Mathematics examination, who are typically 16 to 18 years old. It is not directed at children under 13, and it is not declared as a child-directed app.

8. What this app does not do

It has no user accounts and asks for no name, email address or phone number.
It has no servers. There is no database anywhere holding your information.
It contains no analytics or crash-reporting software.
It does not track you across other apps or websites.
It does not sell information about you. We have none to sell.

9. Deleting your information

Because everything is local, you remove it by removing it from your device: use Settings → Apps → A/L Combined Maths → Storage → Clear data, or simply uninstall the app. Nothing is left behind on our side, because nothing was ever sent there. If Android backup is on, also clear the app from your Google backup as described in section 5.

10. Changes to this policy

If the app starts handling information differently, this page will be updated and the effective date at the top changed before that version is released. Significant changes will also be described in the Play Store release notes.
